ABOUT PAUL

Paul Thompson joined the Loomis Chaffee community in 2023 and now serves as the head coach of the boys varsity ice hockey program. Prior to taking on the role, he spent one season as an assistant coach and two seasons as associate head coach, helping support the continued growth and development of the program. Thompson is passionate about building strong relationships with players and creating an environment that helps them grow both on and off the ice. Before coming to Loomis, Thompson enjoyed a successful 13-season professional ice hockey career, playing more than 700 games in the American Hockey League (AHL) and National Hockey League (NHL). Known as a respected leader in the locker room, he was a player teammates consistently looked to for consistency, composure, and professionalism. Thompson was selected as an AHL All-Star in 2015 and appeared in 24 NHL games with the New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers. Thompson played collegiately at the University of New Hampshire from 2007 to 2011, where he was a member of the 2010 NCAA All-Academic Team. During his senior season he was named the 2011 Hockey East Player of the Year, an NCAA First Team All-American, and a Hobey Baker Top 10 Finalist. During his professional career, Thompson developed a strong interest in coaching while serving in leadership roles with several AHL teams. He now enjoys sharing his experience and knowledge to help players develop their skills, compete at a high level, and build habits that extend beyond the rink. In addition to coaching boys ice hockey, Thompson serves Loomis Chaffee as a sports information associate, athletics and hockey operations assistant, and student activities assistant. Thompson resides in Enfield, Connecticut with his two children, Charlie and Colette, and their dog Marlo. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, attending concerts, exploring new places, and visiting New Hampshire, where he grew up.
